Walk on the beach

Last Sunday we went for a walk on the Termonfeckin beach in Co.Louth. The Sun was shining and it looked like nice warm day, but when we got the the beach all we could feel was very cold and strong wind. However it was great to get out from the house and spend some time in the fresh air.

Here are some photos that I took that day and linking them with few photo challenges.

Sunday morning

I love Sunday mornings, I can stay in bed a bit longer, there is nothing rushing me to do, I can just relax and today I woke up to nice blue sky and it pu a smile on my face.

Now for some photo challenges on Sunday. All five photos are for Scavenger Hunt Sunday

1. The View Above - I had to use for that a photo from my files, it was taken on our trip to my sister last summer. Kids had lots of fun that day jumping so high

2. Something Hot - steaming hot water from a boiling kettle- making my morning tea:)

The other day I was thinking that photography is taking over my other hobbies, so I promised I will try to do at least one craft project a week. This photo was taken for my last crafty idea and you can check the whole tutorial HERE

Chestnuts - to eat or not to eat?

I have two questions for you today:

1. Did you ever try chestnuts?

2. Did you eat something before that was poisonous and you didn't know about it?

You read my two questions and now I would like to let you know, that if you ever try to get your own chestnuts for eating, be very careful what you chose.

The ones pictured at the end of my post are poisonous and they are called Horse chestnuts. My partner always like to try new things, so one day while on our walk he gathered some lovely looking chestnuts and decided to roast them. I am not the one for trying new things so I said I won't be eating it. I don't think he actually ate many of them either. But after a day or two he got a very bad rush on his arms and hands and wondered why. I think only after a week or so I decided to check some info about chestnuts and the wonderful Internet provided me with some knowledge. The chestnuts that he ate were poisonous, so I am so grateful that apart from the rush there was no other bad consequences.

Now for some good news, we collected that day as well some Edible Sweet Chestnuts, at first when I took that photo ( the one below) I had no clue what it is but again the Internet is great for information you need. The pod of the edible sweet chestnut has a sort of porky-pine look to it with thin needle like spikes that point out in all directions and form a sort of thicket where you cannot see anything but the spikes. These are green while the chestnuts are forming and then turn brown when the chestnuts are mature

Above photo is SOOC and the one below is after I did some changes. It was taken with Nikkon D5000 and I used Microsoft Office picture manager. First I cropped it, next adjusted mid tones a bit and added some contrast.

It's such a Joy to be a mother to my lovely daughter, even if she acts up a bit from time to time. But I still love her , no matter what.

How to make dry flowers arrangement

If you've received a beautiful bunch of roses and after a while it is not that fresh anymore why not dry it and make a perfect dry flower arrangement.

All you need for this dry flower arrangement is:

• dry flowers
• floral foam
• scissors
• hair spray

First you have to let your flowers dry, hang each bundle upside down by their stems, it will keep the flowers and leaves in an upward position as they dry. You probably have to leave them like that for a week or even longer. That's the longest part of the project

To preserve your dried flowers use hair spray. Mist each dried flower and let it dry well before you use them in the arrangement.

Next, cut the stems short

Once you have your floral foam and stems ready, start arranging the flowers

The best way is to put them in the middle first and then work around it

If you look at the picture below, it looks pretty good and you can just put a nice matching ribbon to cover the foam, or you can keep going putting more flowers around it to make it look like it's a flower ball

Once you done, the only thing now is to find a perfect place to display your dry flower arrangement.
